Community

Mauvic has supported local businesses over the past 10 years, including a local convenient shop and chicken farm, and has recently employed 4 local people to assist with road maintenance of the quarry. Further training opportunities that will lead to employment will become available in late 2024 in areas of machine operator, road maintenance and environmental management. Mauvic is committed to providing and safe and welcoming environment leading to long term employment opportunities.

Environmental

The primary problem addressed by MAUVIC is the environmental damage caused by the extensive use of river rock in construction projects in Fiji. Currently, over 70% of rock used in construction is river rock, which has significant negative environmental impacts. Countries like Australia and New Zealand restrict river rock usage to approximately 1% for similar projects. Additionally, the existing transportation methods for rock are costly and environmentally harmful, involving heavy truck usage that damages roads and increases pollutants.
Mauvic meets regularly with various Governing Bodies, including The Minerals Resource Department, Department of Environment and The Waterways Department, during these meetings we provide openness and transparency in our quarry operations. As part of our compliance to maintain a clean and pollution free environment, a baseline water test was performed in May 2024 to determine the expectation of the Mauvic Quarry, regular tests will be funded and committed to by Mauvic.
